Pre-engine checks

  • Cam belt replacement
  • Fit protective covers
  • Check operation of lights

  • Check air conditioning operation
  • Check horn
  • Lubricate all door hinges, locks and bonnet catch
  • Check fuel cap
  • Check vehicle history
  • Check for damage to bodywork, lamps etc.
  • Check condition and operation of all seatbelts
  • Check operation of lights
  • Check windscreen washers and wipers
  • Check operation of suspension dampers
  • Apply treatments, allow to run for 20-30 mins

    UNDER BONNET

  • Check cooling system, including fan operation
  • Check and record Anti-Freeze protection
  • Check, record and top-up brake fluid
  • Check power steering operation and fluid level
  • Check all auxiliary belts (not timing belt)
  • Check engine breather system
  • Check vacuum pipes
  • Check battery levels
  • Check and top-up all under-bonnet fluid levels
  • Replace air filter * if required
  • Replace spark plugs * if required
  • Replace fuel filter * if required
  • Replace pollen filter * if required

  • Change oil, filter and fit new sump washer
  • Check fuel lines and brake pipes
  • Check for leaks and security of the exhaust
  • Check and top-up axle and transfer box
  • Check and top-up gearbox level
  • Check all steering and suspension
  • Carry out tyre report
  • Check all wheel bearings for play and noise
  • Check CV gaiters and joints for wear and splits
  • Check clutch cable/cylinder
  • Grease all greasing points
  • Check operation and condition of brakes
  • Remove rear brake drums, check operation of brakes, clean, grease and adjust (including handbrake)

  • Refill engine with specified grade oil
  • Road test vehicle and report any findings
  • Re-check engine oil level
  • Reset service interval reminder
  • Ensure all upholstery, gear lever etc. are clean
  • Stamp service books
